How to Fix a Corrupted or Broken PDF File
What to do when Adobe Acrobat says 'This file is damaged and could not be repaired.'
The source of corruption
PDFs usually break due to interrupted downloads, failing hard drives, or bad email encoding.
Attempting a repair
Sometimes, the file structure is just slightly malformed. You can often repair a PDF by forcing a new software engine to rebuild it. Try running the broken file through a tool like Compress PDF or PDF to Word. Our internal rendering engine will attempt to ignore the broken syntax and generate a fresh, clean file.
